This is the web site for Historical Cooleemee, North Carolina. Cooleemee was built as a cotton mill village in 1898. In the future there will be photos of old Cooleemee, listings of events that will take place during the year and lots of general information on the first 100 years in a mill villages life.

About the Mural At its annual banquet held in Goldsboro, NC, mural artist Jeremy Sams received a prestigious Paul Green Multi-Media award for his Cooleemee Old Square Mural. In commenting on Sam's 1998 creation the judges said: "What an undertaking! And what a talented young man! It is worth the trip to go to Cooleemee to see this mural in person. It gives the effect that one is looking through a window in time and one can step out of this life into a bygone era. The vivid colors make the scene come alive, yet the shading brings one back to reality. The sky looks real enough to reach out and touch, and we felt like walking up to the characters on the street to have a chat with our neighbors. This is more than a painting...the artist has captured a way of life. "

Mill Town      To get a quick look at the history of Cooleemee and the people that built it read this submission to the Davie County Heritage Book.

Textile Heritage Center      Located in the historic Zachary House, the Textile Heritage Center opened to the public in October, 1993. Its purpose is two-fold: to anchor an entire historic mill village district here and to fill the urgent need for a regional center to study North Carolina's cotton mill culture. Here are some things that have been done, and more that still need to be done.

Mill Town Museum      A little background on the people that built Cooleemee, and the museum dedicated to preserving that information. Here you will also find directions on how to get to the museum and the hours it is open.

History      This is where to go to find out what it was like living in a cotton mill village in the early 1900's. Different stories and pages will tell about the early schools, travel on the old dirt roads and other aspects of daily life. In the future there will be a photo gallery of old pictures that will change about once a month. Check back often.
